In the UK, going to one of the summer music festivals, means great music, great performances, great venues, and a great experience. But visitors to Glastonbury, V-2006 and The Proms can all attest to the risk and reality that is the English weather, or you have to be indoors! Glastonbury is almost synonymous with muddy quagmires, and flooded campsites. So why get excited about music festivals. Well, in Spain, you can see all the top performances (international and Spanish) outdoors, and be almost risk free with the weather. So check out this year's best of the crop for music festivals on, or close by to the Costa Blanca.
 Kicking off in May is the MEDIATIC FESTIVAL being held on 19-20 May in La Nucia, right in the heart of the Costa Blanca. This is oriented towards Spanish pop music acts. Raimundo Amador, Melendi and Los Deliqüentes will be appearing on the 19th, with La Fuga, Macaco, and Seguridad Social appearing on the 20th. Of course there are many other acts.  The ELCHE GUITAR FESTIVAL has been attracting the world’s top classical guitar talent for nearly a decade. Whether they be established guitarists, or newcomers setting out in their career, they come to Elche to perform. In addition, they come to give master classes in Classical/Spanish guitar playing. The festival runs from now until August.  Benidorm will stage its BMM06 over 3 separate days. Headlining on Day 1 (3 June) will be 80’s British gothic rockers The Cult (click here for more details). Day 2 (16 June) is given over to a more Latino scene culminating with Marc Anthony. Day 3 (30 July) sees what many will consider to be the highlight of the festival when The Who play Benidorm as part of their World Tour (click here for more details).
 Finally, and a bit further a field is the FESTIVAL DE BENICASSIM taking place just North of the Costa Blanca. This is often described as “Glastonbury in the Sun” and this year will be attracting top rock acts Placebo, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Scissor Sisters, The Pixies and Madness (to name just a few!). The festival is organised in a similar fashion to Glastonbury in that there are a number of stages, it takes place over several days, and the main accommodation is a campsite.
