So, onto a full description of those benefits.
MASSAGE is one of the oldest and simplest forms of medical care. Hippocrates, the father of Western Medicine in the 5th century, used friction in the treatment of sprains and dislocations and kneading to treat constipation. He also said "This Physician must be experienced in many things but most assuredly in rubbing, for rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose and loosen a joint that is rigid". Massage is a healing art. It is the systematic and scientific manipulation of the soft tissue of the body. The purpose being, to bring about physiological, mechanical and psychological changes. In addition to treating injured or ill people, massage can be used to prepare healthy muscles for strenuous sporting activities. Massage is also one of the most enjoyable ways to treat a variety of complaints; a frozen shoulder, headache, stress, anxiety and fatigue to name a few. Numerous research studies conducted in the United States, Europe and Asia have documented that far beyond simply "feeling good", massage therapy has an impressive range of physical, mental and emotional benefits.
REFLEXOLOGY must not be confused with basic foot massage in general. It is a specific pressure technique which works on precise reflex points on the feet, based on the premise that reflex areas on the feet correspond with all body parts. As the feet represent a microcosm of the body, all organs, glands and other body parts are laid out in a similar arrangement on the feet. Pressure is applied to the reflex areas using specific thumb and finger techniques. This causes physiological changes to take place in the body as the body's own healing potential is stimulated. The goal of reflexology is to trigger the return of homeostasis - a state of balance, the most important step towards achieving this is to reduce tension and induce relaxation.
