Dissapointing Real Madrid Performance in Alicante - too hot says Becks |

David Beckham blamed the heat and the poor playing surface for the Real Madrid's disappointing performance as they struggled to beat local rivals Getafe in Alicante.
Beckham played the full 90 minutes of the game as a late Fernando Morientes goal gave Madrid a 1-0 win over a side bracing themselves for their first season in the Primera Liga.
However, while the England captain continued his good pre-season form and looked sharp in the middle of the pitch, his team-mates looked slightly off the pace.
He said: "The truth is that it was hard for us to score against them, the pitch was in very poor condition and the ball didn't bounce at all well.
"It was also very hot and that meant we played at a lower level than we are used to. I am really tired after playing, it was hard, but I think the team functioned well and in the end we managed to get a win."
With Madrid facing a Champions League qualifier against Wisla Krakow next week, Beckham added that the pre-season was going well.
"We are all happy with the work we have been doing," he continued.
"Games like this are a great preparation for the Champions League; the game against Wisla Krakow is vital." |
