Crime Report For The Last Seven Days
13 October 2006

Costa CrimeIts Friday the Thirteenth, but there are no surprises in this week's crime report, drugs, theft, prostitution and theon-going Torrevieja torture investigation make up this week's crime report.

A man staged a one-man bank robbery in Orihela. He was armed and made of with only 4000€. The bank reported that their security measures had prevented much larger sums being stolen. The armed robber is believed to be Spanish and remains at large.

Police in Orihuela have broken up a drug distribution operation. Sadly, the gang were using children under 18 to transport the drugs up and down the region. In the raid, 9kg of hash and nearly 2kg of cocaine were seized, along with 20,000€ of cash.

A gang of youths has been arrested in Elche following a number of attacks in the city. Their victims were other youths from whom they money under threat of a severe beating. The sums involved were relatively small, ranging between 15€ and 30€.

Three tonnes of hash were intercepted by police when the raided a yacht in Alicante. Three Spanish men along with three Russians were arrested by the Guardia Civil on their luxury yacht near the main port. Police had used a fake kidnapping to question a fourth Russian, and received information which led to the interception.

Twenty Six women were arrested in Pedregeur for being illegal immigrants. The women were working as prostitutes in two clubs near the town. Their passports had been illegally stamped.

Two men face 5 years imprisonment for drug possession in Alicante. The case is unusual in that the offences were committed 15 years ago, when 100 grammes of cocaine was found on the two men, along with needles and other equipment showing that the men were dealers.

A Captian of the Guardia Civil has been put in charge of the torture investigation in Torrevieja. Captain Alberto Aguilera was chosen because he is new to the area and has no previous connections with the town. It is hoped this demonstrable impartiality will lead to a satisfactory outcome. 13 police and 2 councillors are alleged to have colluded in the aftermath of an alleged torture.

A Rumanian man was arrested in Alicante after being stopped by police. An international warrant for his arrest had been issued. He is alleged to be involved with trafficking of young girls and forcing them into prostitution. He is also believed to have been involved in a lorry theft earlier in the year in Albacete.

An attack on a man in La Canada del Fenollar Urbanisation have left police believing that a mini turf-war may be starting in the area. The man was known to be an organiser of a local prostitution ring. Nothing was stolen in the attack, and mo damage was caused to the victim’s property.
