Strike Causes Flight Cancellations 17 October 2006
Dozens of flights to Spain were cancelled due to a baggage handlers strike across the whole of Spain.
Amongst many places hit, Murcian flights by Ryanair were cancelled. Ryanair has said that affected customers can re-book free of charge so long as this happens before mid-December, and there is seat availability.
Oddly, flights by EasyJet and British Airways to Spain were not affected.
More strikes are planned for tomorrow, 18 October, and 23rd October. Again, the strike will only affect Ryanair.
However, Ryanair will continue its service but will probably restrict passengers to hand luggage only in order to avoid the baggage handlers.
Ryanair has long stated its aims to reduce hold luggage by either allowing more habd luggage, or by adopting a pricing scheme for hold luggage. Some analysts see their current stance during this strike as an opportunity to pursue their aims even further in this area.
