Its Healthier To Live In Spain – Official! 18 October 2006
A report just published claims to prove that the Spanish way of life is healthier than the British.
The report published by Taylor Woodrow, the builder, list the main reasons why it is healthier to live in Spain. Naturally, the report needs to be taken in context, Taylor Woodrow wants people to buy its new houses in Spain. Nonetheless, it makes for interesting reading and confirms what many of us already know.
Four main reasons are given in the report.
Sunshine – Spain has more than 300 days of sunshine per year, nearly 3 times that of the UK average. Living in a warm and sunny climate contributes to a general feeling of happiness and well-being. Warm dry weather is good for certain ailments such as arthritis and some bronchial complaints. Bones are stronger due to increased vitamin D from the sun, and even life expectancy is increased due to avoidance of such known diseases as seasonal adjustment disorder – SAD.
Relaxing – Spain is renowned for its siestas and manana attitude. Whilst at times this can be frustrating, it also means that the Spanish are les stressed and take the importance of rest and relaxation seriously. The 4-hour lunch break is beneficial in that the body doesn’t become so run down.
Outdoors – because of the climate, its easier to be outdoors. And being outdoors promotes more opportunities for exercise, whether it be a regular round of golf, or a daily walk.
Healthy Eating – the Mediterranean diet, rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as olive oil is very healthy. It has been shown that olive oil can in fact lower cholesterol and reduce heart disease. And of course living on the coast means fresh fish, a rich source of Omega 3.
So next time you’re missing home, think of the rain, the pace of life, being stuck indoors and all that greasy food, and then smile, because in many ways, we have a much better way if life!
