Farmers to Demonstrate in Murcia 19 October 2006
Approximately 5000 farmers are due to decend on Murcia today to join a protest about water shortages.
The farmers are demonstrating against the Segura water board. As has been widely reported on thisiscostablanca.com, farmers are angry at the imminent threat to their livelihood. Water supplies are at an all time low, and the usual remedies have been halted.
Specifically, the farmers will demand that the transfer of water from the Tajo-Segura water basin will be re-instated.
The main body of demonstrators will come from Lorca, from where 36 coaches will set off this morning. A further 17 coaches are expected from other areas. The farmers will demonstrate outside the offices of the Segura Water Board, and no doubt will cause severe congestion in the area.
