Alicante Airport Gets Bigger 1 November 2006
The new terminal building will provisionally open this month, increasing capacity significantly.
Since Alicante's El Altet airport was upgraded for infrastructure investment, work has continued on its expansion. Phase 1 will complete this month when the new terminal will provisionally open.
The airport will be able to carry more than 20% more passengers with the number of gates being increased to 16.
Ultimately, the ongoing work will see the airport's capacity doubled by 2009. Some call this progress, others will call it misery as road traffic increases, parking becomes more difficult and noise increases from extra flights. However, local businesses should see a resurgence in the region's tourism and a return to profitable trading. |
