La Dame De Elche Is A World Beater 2 November 2006
A world record has been broken in Elche with 'La Dame' at the centre of it all.
A group of 40 young people spent days making a photo collage of La Dame in the Martin Valerez stadium in Elche. They assembled 60,828 photos, many of them of the Elche area, into a collage which itself depicted La Dame.
On hand to validate the world record was a representative from the Guiness Book of Records, Laura Hughes. She appeared very impressed at the collage. The previous largest collage consisted of about 40,000 photos and was assembled in Turkey.
The original bust of La Dame has been on show in Elche for the last 6 months. During that time, nearly 400,000 people ave visited the exhibition. The sculpture was originally unearthed in Elche in 1897, and was then sold to the Louvre in Paris for a mere $40. It took nearly half a century for her to be returned to Spain in a cultural exchange in 194. Here permanent residence is now in Madrid, but has been on loan for the local exhibition. She will return to Madrid this weekend. |
