As a UK national, you no longer need a residence card in Spain if you plan to be an employee or to become self-employed.
Your valid passport will be good enough, nevertheless it is highly advisable to get a residence card, much easier to carry than a passport and better for administration purposes. You can request information on how to get your residence card from the Ministry of Interior: 900 150 000. If you are planning to become self-employed you still need to go through some formalities. You will need to apply for the necessary documentation to engage in your proposed activity. It is only the same as that which would be required from a Spanish citizen in the same circumstances but can be complex. The following list shows some of the papers that may be requested and incidentally will be required for opening commercial premises: Solicitud Licencia Municipal (Application for the Municipal Licence) Solicitud de Apertura de la Dirección Territorial de Trabajo y Sanidad y Seguridad Social (Application for the opening from the Territorial Directorate of Employment, Health and Social Security) Alta como Autónomo en la Seguridad Social (CertIficate of enrolment as self-employed in the Social Security) Alta Licencia Fiscal (Business Licence) Solicitud Autorización de la Consejería de Turismo y Transportes (Application for authorisation from the Council for Transport and Tourism) Concesión de la Jefatura de Costas (Authorisation from the Coastal Authortities) Solicitud Autorización de Manipuladores de Alimentos (Application for authorisation as Food Handler) Solicitud Autorización del Ministerio de Transportes, Turismo y Comunicaciones (Application for authorisation from the Ministry of Transport, Tourism and Communication) Proof of professional/educational qualifications, recognised under Spanish/EU law
Our recommendation is that you hire the services of a "Gestor". A "Gestor" is not a lawyer but will help you out with all the paperwork and "complicated" administrative tasks for a reasonable fee. |
