Rain Brings Water Relief 10 November 2006
Initial reports indicate that a large amount of the rain that fell was actually collected in reservoirs.
All of us will have had to have ducked in out of the rain this past week. It has caused problems and inconveniences, not least the traffic chaos and power cuts. However, the good side of the story is that reservoirs received a welcome influx of water.
Across the country, levels rose by nearly 2%, bringing national capacity up to nearly 47%. The Tajo basin had the most water where levels rose to nearly 49%. The Segura and Jucar basins, which help supply local water also rose, although they remain critically low.
In the Entreprenas and Buendica reservoirs, levels rose above the cut off point for supply to the local region, bringing a sigh of releif to many. IT won't solve all the problems, but will ease the situation until the desalination plants can be finished.
Average rainfall for October was the highest on record since 1930, and various regions have been on Gota Fria alert. |
