Costablanca Tourism Assured 20 November 2006
At a trade fair, the head of Alicante Tourist Board has put in place agreement to ensure the Costablanca remains a major tourist destination.
The World Travel Market fair is being held in London. Attending was Sebastian Fernandez, head of the Alicante Tourist Board. There has been concern for some time that the Costablanca would see fewer and fewer tourists, losing out to new and cheaper destinations such as Croatia. Indeed, local businesses are having one of their worst trading years for some time.
During the fair, Snr Fernandez met withe the head of TUI, Corgi Miguel. TUI is one of the largest tour operators in the world and own the Thomson brand.
Between them , they agreed a new and extensive promotion campaign for next year using multiple marketing channels. This would include internet, direct mailing, and using Thomson TV.
One of they keys to the campaign has been the expansion of Alicante's El Altet airport which can cope with more and more flights. Nearly all of the budget airlines in Europe use the airport, with the exception of Ryanair, who use Murcia. |
